Cumbria County Council’s plan to introduce charges for Skip Hire permits have met criticism with locals.
Skip Hire permits are currently free in Cumbria, but plans are to introduce a £15 fee, though this has not yet been set in stone.
It has been described by locals as an unfair tax on those with terraced houses - predominantly those in poorer areas of Cumbria - who cannot keep the skip driveway or off the road.
Many local authorities charge for skip hire permits. In Hertfordshire the fee is £40 and in Lancashire it is £22.50.
